The idea is to record engine hours so you know when to do the 50 hour
checks etc. I tend to spend a fair amount of time fiddling with the avionix
so I wouldn't want those hours on the Hobbs.
BTW The Grand Rapids EIS engine monitor records hours automatically as long
as the engine is above 250 rpm. Excellent instrument and costs not a lot
more than a normal set of instruments. Also gives a warning if anything is
outside limits.
