Miles,
I concur with all of John Moran's comments.
A 3mm leading edge spacing is the best way to go. I bonded small pieces of
3mm Perspex into the closeout and left them there right throughout the
setup.
My port inboard flap support goes on the opposite way round to the starboard
one (ie contrary to the manual) as there was no place of intersection if I
did it the other way around. I checked this with Andy and he said that it
wasn't an issue.
I had to trim back one of the flaps by 5mm to get it to align with the
aileron. The other was perfect. I note that this is a fairly common
occurrence.
And, the requirement to cut the slot in the flap closeout isn't in the XS
manual either!!!
Other than that it was just a case of patient sanding of the closeout
trailing edges.
By the way, the XS manual recommends one stirring stick spacing between the
upper surface and the closeout and the thickness of a piece of tape between
the lower surface and the closeout.
Have fun, you'll certainly have good arm muscles by the time you have
finished.
