Machining Stainless steel

I am not convinced that the tailplane tube is stainless. All the earlier
versions will corrode if they are not protect against condensation
(cardboard tubing is useful for this). Also the drilling was a lot easier
to do than I expected, also leading me to believe the tube is not
stainless. Perhaps Andy could give us the definative answer on this.
