Those of us in the United States would love to hear about the new
Wilksch engine and any other goodies on display at Cranfield. I'm
glad it won the dead grass award - surely that means someone on
this list got a good look?
Thanks,
David
Hi David, yes, there was a lot of interest. It is hoped to fly the engine in
Bill Wynne's Europa in a few weeks time. Some more dyno running to do first.
There is an article in this month's Flyer mag describing the engine. 3
cylinder 2 stroke with turbo. The crank is at the top, head and exhaust
valves at the bottom, turbo at the side. It fits nicely between the
footwells so prop is in the same station as the XS but 2" higher in the cowl
. At present the engine is a bit heavy for a Europa, (ideal for a Long EZ)
but there is weight to be shaved, the water pump is cast iron, things like
that. IT isn't that much heavier than a Subaru. Can't wait to get a flight
in it. Won't be the first, Ivan has been picked for that job. Better test
pilot.
