For the G-EMIN version the pivot bolt is 1 inch forward of the front edge of
the brake arm in the OFF position. The tab on the cam then lies inboard
about 90 deg to the slot.
Only if you deliberately push more than 90 deg beyond the fully off position
will it come out over the passengers leg. The operating range leaves it over
the tunnel at all times.
Neatest is to add a slotted plate over the brake slot, using the pivot bolt
as forward attachment and another behind the slot. Wear doesn't seem to be
significant and the cam has plenty of range to take up any that develops. You
could always add a bush to the cam hole.
