Rotax 914 & Intercoolers

Hi All

I am a little curious to know why the 914 does not have an intercooler.  I
would have thought that these things would improve the engine life and
increase the performance a bit.  Are they available as an after market item
?  Would such a device fit under the cowl?

Would anyone a bit more knowledgeable care to offer up some comments ?
