Paul,
The dummy spar in our kit (A135) had the 1/2" holes mis-drilled
also. Unfortunately, we used the dummy spar to bond the two
wing spar pin bushes in place without checking the dummy spar
against the wings first. We debonded one of the bushes and used
both wings as a jig to bond the spar pin bush back in place.
I would recommend that you do the same. If space allows,
use one or both wings to jig the spar pin bushes when bonding
them into the cockpit module.
The wooden block at the end of the dummy spar is used to locate
the quick connect bell crank brackets at the pivot bolt hole already
drilled in the brackets. You would need to elongate slighly one of
the 1/2" holes (I would do the one farthest from the bracket jig block)
so the dummy spar can be pinned to the cockpit module. A bolt
through the appropriate 1/4" hole and the pivot hole in the bell
crank bracket can then be used to locate the bracket while Redux
bed at the bracket's mounting flanges sets up. Later you will drill
the bracket flanges/cockpit module to fix the brackets in place on
top of the Redux bed.
On our kit, we rigged the wings to the cockpit module before
installing the fuel tank or bonding the cockpit module to the
fuselage. At that time we found that the bell crank pivot bolts
in the wings and cockpit module did not line up, but were off
1/8 to 1/4 inch. Although the manual describes how to cure
this much later on by relocating the pivot bolt in the wing spar,
it is much easier to fix it by moving the bracket around on
the cockpit module, IF you check and fix it before bonding the
cockpit module into the fuselage.
In short, use the dummy spar to locate the bracket's Redux
bed, then use the wing(s) for the final positioning before drilling
the final mounting bolt holes for the quick connect bracket. With
the bell cranks removed, use the long spacer from the wing
bell cranks to line up the two pivot bolts (one bonded to the
cockpit module's quick connect bracket and the one in the
wing spar).
