I am very sad to report that at about 2:30pm yesterday (Friday 24th
March), Marshall Papworth was discovered dead in his badly damaged
Europa, adjacent to his home airstrip at Upwood. He was alone in the
aircraft, and there was no fire. Apparently there were no witnesses.
The aeroplane, G-MKPU, kit 029 had been cleared for test flying but
this process had not yet reached the issue of a full permit to fly.
The AAIB are investigating, and the Europa Club safety officer Mike
Gregory has been assisting with their initial enquiries.
The Europa Club committee wish to extend their condolences to
Marshall Papworth's relatives, friends and colleagues.
regards
