On a recent inspection I found severe blackening of the inside of the lower
cowl adjacent to the bottom of the silencer box. The fibres seemed to be
intact but could be readily scraped away, almost through to the outside. It
is difficult to move the silencer system to provide more spacing from box.
It there is no contact, a reflecting stainless plate bonded to the inside
would protect, otherwise a standoff insulating layer is needed. Unless of
course you go to the trouble of reforming the cowling shape. (912UL)
