Hi! Bill.
Although my a/c is now trike I commenced on the basis of mono convertible so
I've been your way!
Basically you need to get the top two tubes tight into the tunnel corners
and the bottom two tubes tight into the footwell /tunnel corners, with as
little stress as possible. My experience was that to achieve that at the
same time keeping the vertical members parallel to the firewall you will
find that either the top two tubes or the bottom two tubes (can't remember
which!)need to pass through the firewall long before the other two
(whichever). Otherwise you will cut out far too much firewall and by the
time you get the vertical members into place you will have the holes to
fill.
Get it in place snug on the tubes and to the gap as you discuss then do
your checks about clearance of tyre etc. I think you will find the final
position is naturally achieved without prising etc.
Make sure you produce a good gap between firewall/tunnel corner and the top
cross tube to get the bungee round the top horizontal member. I also got
some purposefull curved bedding washers to ensure the bolts don't crush
the tubes. I also used the piece of firewall you are currently cutting out
to make an additional firewall in the tunnel but with monowheel you need
to be sure you have sufficient clearances.
Regards
Bob Harrison. .

Subject: Landing gear mounting frame alignment
I am fitting the mono wheel landing gear mounting frame and have run
into some alignment questions that I would like to ask any of you who
have already dealt with this. I'm not sure how critical this alignment
is. I'm trying to decide what reference plane(s) to use since the walls
of my landing gear bay and the firewall and the fuselage centerline are
not exactly square.
The mounting frame outer tubes are to be spaced 1/16 - 1/8 inch forward
of the firewall. The manual says to install the swing arm to check that
it moves up into the landing gear bay and stays parallel to the bay
sides which is the cockpit module. It is important that the tire is
aligned with the centerline of the fuselage. Since the engine mounts to
this frame, it probably is more important that the engine thrust line is
in the right orientation to the fuselage centerline. I don't have the
specific information on engine installation to know how finally aligning
the engine comes into play.
Thanks,
Bill McClellan
