This type of corrosion is a severe problem only with extrusions (such as the
hinges) in certain alloys (2024 and 7075 in particular, but even for these
alloys special metallurgical treatments can mitigate the problem) and then
only in marine environments where it does indeed happen "real quick when
you're not looking" but I suspect that the hinges are 6061 which is not
susceptible to exfoliation.

reason for, thanks! If you'd like a picture of it, I will send it to you.
I am rubbing my hinges down and treating them as I have bad experience
with extruded alu parts- exfoliation corrosion hits real quick when
you're not looking. The hinges appear to be anodized but then they get
cut and rubbed down at least on the bonding surface...
