Richard,
Although it won't help with the water issue, a lot of sailplane guys who use
open trailers have made simple aileron locks. It's just two pieces of 1/4"
ply about 3" square with a piece of carpet glued to one side of each each.
Drill a small hole in the center of each piece after the carpet is glued on
and insert a short piece of 1/8" bungee cord or string and tie a knot on the
opposite side of the ply from the carpet. The carpet acts as a pad where the
lock touches either side of the wing tip and aileron. The length of the
string is determined by the thickness of the aileron. The string or bungee is
simply slid into the slot between the tip and the outboard end of the aileron
to a snug fit. Sandwiching the aileron between the two pieces of carpet
covered ply the aileron is "locked" in place and won't move. Simple and works
very well. Don't forget to take them off before you fly though!
