But if powered by the aircraft's electrical system, current will be 
dissipated as heat, making it more efficient to merely add more LED 
candlepower.  Or power it with a switching regulator.  But talk about a 
Rube Goldgerg machine of madly switching transistors just to make it 
appear brighter.  :-)
