I built a lighting system for my instruments using 5mm focused red LEDs. I
control the brightness by varying the ON time of 555 square wave generator.
The frequency is about 1000 hz. which is plenty fast to appear smooth to the
eye. There is NO noise on the radio or intercom. I didn't add any extra caps
than the circuit calls for. See Kitplanes Mar. 01. DON'T put LEDs in
paralell, one will turn on first and hog all the current. LEDs are not made
to meet an exact turn on voltage. Put a separate current limiting resistor
in series with each LED. The Europa wasn't available when I started my
Zodiac kit. I flew the B-47 so I have some experience with bicycle landing
gear.
