Hi All,

I thought I would share my experiences with filler, for what it was worth.
I did about half my project with expand cell and the other half with
Superfill. I took Nev's advice and mixed the stuff up pretty dry. I put a
light smear of epoxy on them applied the filler. I generally found that it
sanded okay, but could never really get to apply it thin enough. If you
want to cut it back with a wood working plane it comes off pretty quick
anyway. I did find that when I sanded it seemed to have a thin top skin to
it that was harder to sand, but I might have been imagining it. I also
added silica to it, but I never tried it without so I can't say how helpful
it was.

Why did I change ?, well I was using West Systems epoxy for mixing with the
filler and it would make me cough as soon as I entered the workshop, even
days after so I figured it wasn't doing me any good. I gave Superfill a
shot and to be honest this stuff is terrific (expensive too). The trick
with the stuff is to mix it with some light heat. I found if I did that I
could get it to mix really easily. The batch to batch consistency was good
as well. The other thing was if you apply it with some gentle heat it went
on really nicely, I found I could taper off to the finest edge with was
very helpful around the root fairings and the seams in the wing panels. At
the end of the day if you can afford the Superfill then that's what I would
use.

Paul
