I suggest you stay with the wing mounted static. In the early days both
pitot and static were tried on the fuselage to minimise wing-fuselage
connections.
The pitot was mounted at the top of the fin which surprisingly worked OK
except when at high angles of attack. This was moved to the relatively
undisturbed
air under the wing. Although the fuselage plcement of the static (either
side of the rear fuselage) worked on some aircraft, the helical propwash
caused problems with some aircraft and after several trials it was decided
to move that to the wing as well. I tried a blade type wing pitot static
head. That worked OK with some aircraft and not others which shows just
how unpredictable it can be. The factory setup seems to be the most reliable
setup so far. I have got a quick disconnect to allow me to provide alternate
static using cabin pressure. Although I have not tried it some owners find
it works well.
