Thanks for that. I have already replaced one cable due to a kink and
the other one is showing signs. I think a visit to the mc shop is
called for and have some spares to hand.

I am using the whole cable which in cludes a plastic inner, inside the
metal
coiled outer. I also put in some proper cable lubrication, of which
several
types are available but they are all basically like WD40 with added
silicone.
