Hi John and all,
The pip pin MUST be fitted on the Port side.
It is there to stop the end of the Starboard spar tang migrating aft under
load, and pulling the rigging cup off the back of the Port spar, and jamming
against the aileron belcrank.
Under load testing, [ for the 1370 lb upgrade ] we established that as G
loads are increased, the tang will move aft. The initial mod was to put the
strap on the Port spar, to contain the starboard spar, but that failed to
control
the rearward shift [ admitedly at loads over 8 G], so the pip pin was
introduced, this does, with the washer bonded to the rear of the rigging cup,
keep
it all together.
The pin needs to be shimmed forward, with the thin washers bonded to the
port seatback bush, so the balls are up against the washer on the rigging cup
[
slight play is needed to ensure the balls always ''pop'' out ]
The aileron quick connect belcranks will need to be trimmed, there is a
drawing of that , somewhere in the Manual [ don't have one to hand] but once you
have shimmed the pin with the wings on, take the wings off, and refit the pin,
it will be obvious which part of the belcrank is in the way.
Have fun, but do take care !
Cheers,
Nev.
