Jeff,

I just read your post where you are going to tie the C lead to the battery.  Be
aware that the C lead not only is used to sense the battery voltage but also
powers the electronics in the regulator.  If you have the C lead permanently 
connected
to the battery, when the engine isn't running, it will  slowly discharge
the battery.
