Hi Will,

I'd have this conversation with Andy Draper at the LAA if I were you.  As I 
understand
it, the fibre glass is just there as a protective layer for the wood spar.
I don't believe it takes any load.  If so, I'd think that the problem in
the photo could be fixed (with an official LAA repair).  But... I'm not an 
inspector.
Talk to Andy.  Did you cut into the surface of the wood?
