Graham,
Thanks much for the link to these videos. Back in the foot launching
mid-70s, I was flying a Mac 101 powered Icarus II w/ a 22" prop from
John Moody turning over 7000 rpm w/ flight ops limited to the low
temps. of midwinter. I then built an Easy Riser and added a PSRU...w/
a slower turning 48" prop, I could fly year round.
While on a trip to LA, I tracked down Craig Catto in his garage and
was amazed to find this audacious 16 yr. old carving propellers...he's
certainly come a long way. About a year ago, I exchanged some emails
w/ him about a Europa prop, perhaps in collaboration w/ Paul
Lipps...alas, nothing's come of it as yet. Glenn Crowder is flying his
Sube-powered Classic w/ a 3 bladed Catto prop which Glenn is quite
pleased with.
Craig has some reassuring thoughts about FP vs. CS props, particularly
where weight is a consideration.
