Europa-List: Air box question classic installation.

Hello,

the air box on my classic has been modified by the builders to have the option
for carb heating. 
So it became bigger and heavier.
Unfortunately it never worked.
I want to undo the modification and have a question about the original design.
In my modified air box is a support laminated in, which  is connected to the 
engine
mount.
Is that necessary? Is there a support at all in the factory deign or do only the
carbs carry the air box as I am expecting?
