I think the salvager of this engine took it off a seaplane. Pilot died on
rotation for takeoff...(No medical needed LSA pilot)...plane flipped and
went down into the fresh water lake.
Lockwood walked him through the de-water. Should be OK...
Obviously there is some concern, but Lockwood seems to think it should be
OK. The electrics are so simple on the Rotax 914, fresh water will
evaporate and not hurt the electrics in most cases.
I don't think I would pay $17K for it even though it is low time. $10K for
a proper overhaul must be planned for. Rebuilt 914s are about $25K so I can
see why he figured $17K. Since it has been dewatered and run tested it
seems the Lockwood/Rotax procedure is sound.
I would think a very safe price would be $10-13K. I believe a block
overhaul is unlikely in the future. If the carbs and turbo need to be
replaced, early that's $12K. So 13K is a very safe price in my opinion.
