Hello Will, to be independent of electricity is indeed a big advantage. However there are few modern engines (Rotax iS, Continental CD 155 Diesel, car engines....) which aren't. As far as I know there was only one (documented) electrical related accident in Switzerland with a MCR01, which didn't have a standard setup if my memory serves. That said, it's of course always better to have redundancy (other than just the battery), especially in a plane and that is why I'll go for the Silent Hektik product.
