Spar Guide spacing?

The manual shows the optional "L" shaped spar guide tight against the aft side
of the spar.  This would seem to make spar insertion difficult. Intuitively it
looks like between 1/16 and 1/8 would be a good compromise.   Advice anyone?

I made each spar guide using 3 of the triangular offcuts from the tufnol CS06
rear stick bearings.  Bonded them together with Redux and then filed to shape.
They seem adequate and the price was right.
