Hi! Fergus. Re :- Mod 52.
I take it that your wing spar bushes are in place (as from the factory ) and
still 3/8ths .inch diameter ? Assuming this to be the case :- Change the
wing spar bushes for 1/2 inch diameter first. Suggestion :- get a small jig
made up with a removable bush of about 2" diameter in it , the bush it's
self having a 3/8th's hole through it . Also get another bush made the same
but with a 1/2" hole through it . Then you need a length of 3/8" rod which
is a good fit in the 3/8ths bush hole , at one end of this rod you need a
reduced diameter that fits and replaces the centre drill of a sharp hole saw
which it'self is the same diameter as the outside diameter of the
replacement 1/2" bushes .
Clamp the jig securely to the spar below the location being modified (Four
separate operations ) with the 3/8ths jig bush and rod engaged in the
existing spar bush then securely clamp up the jig to the spar. ( to locate
the jig exactly in line with the existing 3/8ths to be replaced.)
Assemble the hole saw with the 3/8ths rod(arbor) in it to the drill , then
use the arbor as a guide right through the existing bush and engaged into
the Jig 3/8ths bush and then with the hole saw cut out the offending 3/8ths
spar bush. ( you will find that two bushes will emerge since there is one
fitted to each side)
Keeping the jig in place, replace the removable jig bush with the 1'2" jig
bush and using a greased length of 1/2" rod which is a good fit into the jig
bush enter the new 1/2" bushes and check for every thing being nicely in
line.( you will need to enter one bush from each side prior to fitting your
1/2" jig bush)
When you are satisfied "pot" the two new bushes into place with a wet flox
mix and allow to cure before removing the jig.
(You will need to determine that the new bush flanges when finally inserted
are overall the same dimension as the distance overall of the original
3/8ths bushes)
Repeat for all the locations.(You will need to make sure that the jig you
make can be suitably positioned in each location before starting , because
if you have located the aeirleron? bell crank already it may affect the
shape your jig needs to be.)
Then proceed with instructions as per the manual for inserting the 1/2 "
bushes into the seat back's.
JUST LIKE THAT !!!!!!!!
All IMHO of course.

Cheers:
stage of offering up the cockpit module to the pinned wing spars
(normally for the purpose of siting and fixing the 3/8in fuselage
bushings).
However, I had hoped for some saving in labour etc by installing the
1/2in bushings in lieu, so to save the job of installing and then
drilling out the fuselage bushings.
I have appealed to Andy Draper, and will of course abide by his advice,
but beg to call for any hints or kinks to save these steps - from any
fellow stalwart trying the same caper. My tored old mind cannot twist
itself around the devious method of siting new busgings before the old
are in!
Any advice not involving bodily functions gratefully received.....
Happy Landings
