By coincidence, just before downloading and reading tonight's
messages including the ones about trailer wheel-bearing problems, I
was speaking on the phone to a potential Europa Club member who
reported another trailer problem.
He's just bought a completed flying Europa from a builder in
Scotland, and trailered it down to south Wales via Yorkshire &
Derbyshire (maybe 3-400 miles?). The rig ran true and gave good
handling, but on arrival home he found that both wing leading edges
had been damaged by chafing; one had really just paint scuffs, but
the other leading edge is deformed and will need repair. He was using
the standard UK factory trailer, bought with the aircraft, and while
he had added extra soft packing around the fuselage for the long
journey, he hadn't thought to do the same for the wings. I was not
aware that this might be a problem, or I'd have warned him about it
when we spoke on various matters before his purchase.
Hope this helps someone else take appropriate precautions - does
anyone have good advice on how to set up the factory trailer for
arduous trips?
regards
Rowland
