Hi Andrew,

Welcome to the group.
My co-builder and I are nearly finished with an XS
(its out for painting). See comments/answers inline
with your questions.

We used a closet door on saw horses for all the layups. The table has
two boards screwed to the bottom, with paper shims used between
the boards and the table top (door) to trim it flat.

We ran 1/2 inch plastic pipe through the wing as conduit. This is the black
stuff used for drip sprinkler systems. Make a run for the electrical wires
and another run for the pitot static lines. Europa suggests you run the
pitot/static tubing through the wing ribs with grommets at each rib. Not
a good idea, as you may eventually need to replace the tubing. We used
Whelen A600 strobe/position lights. The strobe power supply in the
standard package from Aircraft Spruce gives four pulses per cycle,
but draws 7-8 amps. We chose to get the 'Custom Low Energy
Sytem' which gives only one pulse per cycle, but draws only
4 amps.
We bought an automotive driving light, 35 Watts, for our
landing light. We mounted it to the back of the cooling duct so that
it shines out through the cooling opening just below the spinner.
That way we do not have to disconnect the wires when removing
the bottom cowl, as would be the case if we had mounted the light
directly to the cowl.

Note that the alternator supplied with the Rotax
912/914 engines is only good for about 15 amps, 7 amps
for nav lights plus 4 amps for strobes only leaves 4 amps for
everything else! With only one aux pad you can have an extra
alternator, a vacuum pump, or a hydraulic governor for a
constant speed prop. We chose the hydraulic governor for
the Whirlwind prop, and were just very careful with our
electrical budget, for example, we used a mechanical contactor
switch rather than the typical master contactor relay which draws
an amp.
