Correcting my prior post, I don't think they were more than .001"
deep, but they were fissures in the metal. Scratches push metal up
out of the valley, and at all about 45-deg to the member, I can't see
what would have scratched it. I concur that it shouldn't be a worry
now, but still wish I had a dye penetrant kit. This area will not be
conducive to periodic inspections.
