>I have had a couple of suggestions for alternative hosts
One that occurred to me recently was Matt Dralle's Matronics outfit
which has been hosting the following aeronautical-oriented lists:
Aerobatic-List
AeroElectric-List
Aviation-List
Avionics-List
Beech-List
Cadet-List
Cessna-List
Corvette-List
Czech-List
Engines-List
EZ-List
Glasair-List
Homebuilt-List
Kolb-List
Lancair-List
Pelican-list
Pietenpol-List
Piper-List
Pitts-List
Rocket-List
RV-List
RV3-List
RV4-List
RV6-List
RV7-List
RV8-List
RV9-List
RVCanada-List
RVEurope-List
Sailplane-List
Seaplane-List
Skymaster-List
SmithMini-List
Sonerai-List
Tailwind-List
Ultralight-List
Warbird-List
Yak-List
XDP4000X-List
Zenith-List
... which made me think we could be in good company there.
However, Matt is having big-time trouble with his internet connection
and domain name server at present so all lists are down and I can't
check what facilities are available on the list server, or what might
be the criteria for being allowed to start a new list with him. My
previous experience with the AeroElectric list has been good, so
perhaps it's an option worth considering. The AeroElectric list
certainly has the desirable feature that replies are directed to the
list by default, rather than just to the poster as is the case with
the Avnet Europa list. It's run by a version of Majordomo too, so if
it can be set up to reject auto-replies that cause mail loops, you'd
think that the Avnet one could be similarly configured. The Club has
even offered Avnet money to at least help finance any required
upgrade to the list server software, but they did not seem interested.
> We are all losers if the group fragments
Hear, hear. That has happened to other special-interest lists and
it's been all bad news from then on.
