Many thanks for all your kind responses - herewith the answers to the
various questions:-
Donald, I had installed the heavy (dash2) cable from front to back as per
the Good Book but had not yet made up a battery carrier when I telephoned
Neville Eyre on another matter. ".. bye the way," he said, " when you come
to install the battery, put it under the cowling to avoid the voltage-drop
that the rear position will cause." "You will also save some weight and a
lot of expense." !!
After some thought I did this and the cable I saved weighed 7 1/2 lbs. This
would, of course, be divided fairly evenly either side of the c of g and
would not have affected to any great extent the ballast needed later - so
it is the better position IMHO.
Bob J. you are absolutely correct! Just to see WX leave the ground that
first time made all those hours of smell, dust, sore fingers etc. etc. VERY
worth while!

The propeller blades are the wide chord type, Duncan, and were set (still
are!) at 21.5 degrees for all test flying. In the timed climb we were
getting 5200 rpm. Yes, the splash moulding for the air intake is now
surplus to requirements and you are very welcome to it. I trust your
cowlings ARE the XS type as it cannot be used on the Classic?
Terry, my silencer is the later, oval type but the down-pipes have ball
joints at the cylinder-head end and short "spiggots" at the lower end with
ring-seals on them. (bit like piston rings) and are held by compression
springs and wire hooks.
As yet, I have no carb. heat system fitted - that's on the list of
outstanding items for the winter!
Dave, does that mean there are now TWO white Europas? And I was thinking
mine would be unique!
