It is all about C of G. If it is within limits in either position I would
opt for the aft position especially if you have a mono wheel Europa
(apparantly it makes it slightly easier to land). An aft C of G also
reduces drag by reducing tailplane download.
I left final battery installation until after weight and balance
calculations had been completed. I guessed that the battery would be in the
rear position (due to a VP prop and heavy instrument panel) so included the
battery wiring to the rear position in advance. The wiring could have been
removed if the forward position proved necessary however it is a useful
position for a ground power connection point (ground power connections
forward of the wing have safety implications).
