How could anyone forget doing this? It is one of the most tedious
operations in the entire project (at least for the Tri-Gear where things are
REALLY tight).

Not only are the bolts too long (cut as required to fit) but you will find
it a bit difficult to drill the holes in the gusset plates and the plywood
shims. If the plywood is already bonded to the cockpit module it is too
late for the easy solution (drill before mounting). The alternative is to
buy an "extra-length" drill in 5.0mm diameter by 12 inch length (McMaster
Carr part number 88455A74, for example at http://www.mcmaster.com/). Don't
even try to use the 4.8mm diameter per the Europa manual because 4.8mm is
SMALLER than the AN3-11A bolt that goes in the hole. An AN3 has a 10-32
thread with a maximum major diameter of 0.1891 inch (before cadmium plating)
vs. 4.8 mm which is 0.1890 inch. This presumes of course that you can
carefully drill all holes precisely on the correct centers. Fat chance.
Realistically you will need oversize holes just to make things actually go
together.

Have fun.

Subject: Tie rod

Anyone out there either recently fitted the tie rod linking rear lift/drag
pin sockets or can remember doing it. I'm assuming that I need to cut down
the EURO 44 and 45 bolts as at present they stick out way through W34 but
there is nothing in the manual about shorteniong them. If I don't cut them
down they will interfere with the plywood shim between the gusset plates.
Any thoughts?
