Mark,
Sounds like you got a fantastic deal there. Why was it available if you
don't mind me asking. What stage are you at, reading between the lines your
not flying yet?
It would be good to swap info at some stage and Poole our experiences. I'm
not sure how many more Europas have the engine I know of two. One in
Yorkshire and one in the N.E.
I was mega impressed with the VP unit, very nice. Its a bit of a vicious
circle though because it adds yet more weight to a heavy plane.
That reminds me of something mentioned to me when I was looking at a Europa
to buy. It was a Mono.
Having not gone through the build I'm not technical but the rudder was off
set, I assume to compensate for torque from the engine. However the Subaru
turns the other way so does that mean the torque is pulling in the opposite
direction??
The PFA instructor that gave me some coaching was convinced this was wrong
and the off set way right for a traditional engine but not for a Subaru.
So my question...Is the rudder offset and should it be changed if using a
engine with rotation which is opposite??
Me I know nothing and no doubt will have a steep learning curve.
Good luck with the engine.

I opted for the Subaru because of price - I bought a 36 hour Subaru engine
for 1500.
Good side of Subaru:
Buy price
Simple single point injection - no carb. (on mine at least)
Car engine - car engine prices (for most parts)
Bad side of Subaru:
Weight (I'm told to mount my battery in the back somewhere)
Prop. turn the wrong way (compared to Roatx, so I've been told)
Dave Hunter is the person to talk to about the Subaru engine in the Europa,
if you need his number, drop me an email.
If you buy second hand, check the fly wheel - if it has holes, it should be
replaced.
Cheers,
Mark.
