Message text written by "Dave Simpson" >The normal rule of thumb given to me by Andy some time ago for a mod was 3 times the mass of glass which is being removed, to be applied around the perimeter of the hole. Francis Donaldson also accepted my modification on this basis. (My mod. was an access hole to the tank via a cockpit module hole between the headrests). < I am aware of this rule of thumb but without expanding further Francis could not envisage a situation where he could approve a mod which cut a hole in this area. This came up in a meeting where this was a side issue and we were pressed for time so I didn't ask him to elaborate. I suspect that the problem is that the immediate area on that flat surface either side of the hole is so small that it is impossible to apply the necessary reinforcing. Nigel Charles |
