It is not all as you think, to be exact there a many variables involved in what
you can and can't do, involved in adding ratings to your licence.
And I am not posting on this again.
However the question was about certified instruments and avionics, and as the 
instruments
and avionics are listed for an IMC rating plus they two type of gps
were approved for training in the 869 pages I have read.
