Paddy:
One consideration about trailers I don't see mentioned is collision
worthyness. Many of the trailers I have seen for the plane resemble boat
trailers, where by the plane runs up on rails and the wings are cradled
outboards. Its a nice looking and utilitarian setup however it looks to be
very vulernable in any tangle with another vehicle. I live around a very heavily
populated area in the US and rarely a day goes by without seeing a bent up
vehicle. I can't imagine letting my 4 or 5 years of work be vulnerable to
some one else's inattention. I like the idea of having an open
trailer to allow easy maintenance while the plane is parked at the house.
However I am planning on using a larger flatbed trailer to take the brunt of any
collisions. I am even considering firing up the old arc welder to add
some bumper bars. The flatbed will most likely allow me to work it into any
configuration to suit my needs. However if I were living in more of a
rural area my concern with having an armored "aircraft carrier" would be
greatly lessened.

Subject: Trailers
Hi Everyone,
I
have to make some decisions about a trailer. I plan to keep my
monowheel at home and trailer it 3 miles to my local field every time I
want
to fly. Is this unrealistic?.
I
have to choose between the Europa type open trailer and one of
the closed box types. The open trailer would fit diagonally in my garage
and
this would mean easy servicing and no condensation problems. It would
also
be relatively small and easily manoeuvrable, however I have been put off
by
reports on this site of it being awkward to load and unload, and of
damage
to the plane whilst doing so. Is a closed trailer with a rear door/ramp
and
a dolly system any easier? .
Are
there any other points to be considered? I would much
appreciate any thoughts.
Happy
building/flying,
Paddy
