I'm about at this stage also, and have been toying with this idea. 

You'll be surprised where tufnol bearings pop up in aviation. My tech
counsellor, who is head of engineering at Air New Zealand, was delighted
when he saw that the Europa used Tufnol bearings as he felt that they
would give many many years of trouble free operation.
