I have just installed my tank and had the same problem with clearance to
the spar. I asked Andy Draper what the required clearance from the bid
bracket to the spar is and he told me the spars flex around 5 or 6 mm at
the center between the two pins (according to his memory) so this must
be a minimum clearance. In other words, just being able to insert the
spar is not enough.
In my case it was a problem getting the tank to sit squarely, (new tank,
XS s/n 529) and ended up with a bit of a lean forward, almost no
clearance at the top/ rear of the tank and just over 1/4 '' clearance
between the fuselage and the aft of the baggage bay floor, having set
the 323mm distance from seatback to the aft wall.
And for those who saw my earlier posting on this issue, i abandoned the
idea of putting in something to prevent fretting, but after installing
the tank I came to think of the thick felt used on many tanks, I would
probably have used that if I'd thought about it at the time...
Good building to all,
Alex, kit 529
